May 17th and 18th marked Big Sunday Weekend, a national weekend of volunteering. We were out at White Oak Farm in Calabasas on Saturday and Hansen Dam Recreation Center in Sylmar on Sunday. Throughout the weekend more than 100 volunteers assisted with vital restoration work and tree care, removing thousands of pernicious invasive weeds and caring for hundreds of trees and native plants. The photos below recap the incredible weekend and help show just how diverse our forestry work can be!… Read more >>
If what goes around comes around, then the group Girl-Karma can expect major Earth Day kudos for its members’ commitment to improving environmental health. Our wonderful volunteer Michelle Moy talked about her experience planting trees with TreePeople for the group’s Karma in Action column. She wanted to share what she learned about the benefits of trees, in order to inspire other young women to be agents for change, in their city and for their planet.
Michelle learned, among other things, that people are as important to the health of the urban forest as trees are.… Read more >>
At TreePeople we like to think of every day as Earth Day. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love to celebrate April 22 as a great time to do something wonderful for the earth.

In Los Angeles, we’re lucky we can get outside day and night, all year around. Celebrate our favorable climate by joining us for our last Moonlight Hike of 2012–tonight, Friday, December 28, at 6:30 p.m. It’s a family-friendly adventure that starts at TreePeople’s headquarters and explores the nighttime views and sounds of Coldwater Canyon Park. And, no kidding, you will be invited to howl at the moon.
The 45-minute hikes are moderately paced and guided by members of TreePeople’s education staff.… Read more >>
